An abandoned house in Lanett, Alabama - Donated by Dede Reddish

Think about your home...or your folk's home. Scatter rugs on the floor, pretty curtains
at the windows. The smell of something delicious cooking on the stove...
The old home place. A safe place. Usually a haven, as they say, where you go,
and they have to take you back in.

When I saw Dede's pictures of this old house, I could almost hear long ago children
playing in the yard...one of them slamming the screen door...I could see in my mind's
eye someone's mother drying her hands on her aprin, busy in the kitchen.

Time marches on, and as shown in the photos, it can be brutal.

No longer will a dog warm itself dozing before this fireplace

This stove has seen its last holiday meal - its last pan of scalded bread.

It looks like vandals have done what vandals do...destroy and pilfer...

The lady of the house's dishes are still in the drainer. Somehow this effected
me more than any of the other pictures. They're still there. Somehow this
shot made me think of my grandmother - almost 2 decades in her grave, yet there
are still items of hers which look or work like brand new. Something just seems
messed up when someone's watch (or dishes) are around long after the owner of those
things are gone.

Some say these orbs are just dust particles...and that may be so.. still others say
that they're spirit energy. Either way.. the organ sitting there, a monument to
a home obviously once greatly enjoyed, seems to be waiting for someone to play just
one more time...

Someone's dress, hat and coat are still handing on a hook at the door...

Cups still on a rack, and look in what was a cabinet, beside the stove. Like they're
waiting for someone to just walk in and use them...

I find myself wondering about the person who planted the trees that are hugging this
old house...did they know it would someday look like this? Forgotten...going back to
weed...

Ouch! Imagine as a kid, tripping up those stairs!

But...is this house really abandoned. I could swear I see a woman in black sitting
at this window. Can you see her too?

Someone loved this old house. I don't find it hard to believe that her spirit is
still there, watching over it.
Do you?

Thank you Dede, these pictures are just awesome!
