Superstitions..
(Things I've heard locally for as long as I can remember.)

Never count the cars in a funeral procession. That'll end up being how many
days you have left to live.

If you touch the body of the deceased in his coffin, you won't dream of him.

If you dream of a wedding, it means you're going to hear of a birth. If you
dream of a birth, you'll soon get the news of a death.

When a dog that doesn't usually howl begins howling mournfully, you'd better
check on its owner, it means he or she has passed away, or will soon.

If a bird (usually a sparrow or crow) flies into the glass pane of a
window in your home, you'll hear of the death of someone close to you.
If it flies inside your home, you'll soon have a death in your family.

The thing that scares you the most, is what will eventually kill you.

If you hear the deceased call out your name...he or she is coming for you.

If you dream of falling, but wake before you land, you'll be fine, but...
if you hit the ground in your dream, you'll die in your sleep. (How do 'they'
know this!?)

That "They don't realize they're dead." stuff doesn't wash around here...if you're
being visited by a ghost, it's because they have something to tell you, unresolved
issues of some kind. Ask them what they want. If they don't answer you, you can
try my grandmother's favorite way of getting them to go away. Just say, "In the
name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, tell me what you want, or
go away." The spirit is duty bound to tell you or leave forever.

If someone sees a ghost, or a vision (premonition), and he or she steps on your right
toe with his or her toe.. (not sure which toe) you can see what they're seeing too.

If you put a silver coin on someone's grave...and it sinks.. that greedy person
is reaching for the coin, from hell. But if the coin stays put, the person is happy
in heaven, with no need for the coin.

When you leave a house or a building, exit through the same door you entered, or
you will never enter that place again. In other words, don't go in the front door,
then leave through the back one!

Shoes on the table means bad luck to their owner.

This next one I remembered the other night when mom got sick. Kelly called to tell me
he'd seen a florescent green ball shoot over Lisa's house towards Mom's house.
Mamaw told us about a big orange ball, as bright as fire that flew up from the ground,
into the air, right in front of the window of an ailing relative. Just afterwards, the
relative passed away. This one intrigues me. Have any of you heard of the "glowing"
ball fortelling death? Email me if you have!

That's all that comes to mind right now. I'll post more as I remember them.
If you have some you'd like for me to add, email me!
