Odd Dream...

I just woke up from a nap. I wanted to leave this dream here, it was nutty.
*laughs*

I dreamed I was working in a small grocery store, someplace in a town where they still had wooden floors and they still called their town a town. The woman (man?) hired me to work a few hours after closing, to clean the store. I had to put back things that customers had left laying around, wipe off counters, sweep, that sort of thing.

One other guy would be in the store, and he was more like.. a guard than anything, he would eat the woman's (man's?) snack cakes and leave the wrappers thrown on the floor, and I'd pick them up and throw them away when I cleaned. He was a little slow, I guess retarted is too strong a word, but he was slow when he talked and that wasn't much.

I was dressed like a gypsy in this dream - I was a gypsy. The owner, (who was dressed like a woman, but looked like a man in drag to me) stayed late this night, and was just sort of hovering about the store while I cleaned, and the slow guy was lumbering about doing what ever it was he was paid to do.

I did my cleaning and picked up about 5 half eaten packages of cupcakes from the rack and on the floor around it, and threw them away, and when I was all done, I started to leave the store and the owner was waiting by the door.. all nervous, touching her (his) cat's-eye glasses, and she had this look of determination on her face. Some guy I'd never seen was with her, but he was sitting on a display wrack just watching, and this woman (man?) finally sputtered out that I was a thief.

I was shocked, honestly shocked and I denied it. She told me she didn't want me working in her store anymore, that she knew I was a thief and she'd watched me that very night and just didn't want my kind in her store.

I stood there begging her to reconsider, that I'd not stolen anything, not so much as an apple, and I told her that I loved the house I lived in in "town" and that if I got a reputation for stealing I'd never get another job and I'd lose my house and have to move away, that I'd never risk that by stealing anything from her.. but she wouldn't have it.

The slow guy lumbered up to us and he was trying to tell her no, that she was wrong, that I didn't steal, but she hushed him with one look. She stood there with this stubborn look on her face, and I knew she wasn't going to pay me for the weeks work so I just gave up, took off my aprin and started outside. She hissed at me to take my hunchback too, that she didn't want him there anymore either.

She meant the slow guy. I didn't even know him, but to her he was my hunchback. I nodded at him and we left the store, I was barefooted and the dirt road felt good on my feet and my hunchback was just following me down the road and from time to time he'd take this little pistol out of his pocket and shoot towards a house we were going past, he was angry that she'd fired us.

That was it. I woke up. Way weird dream..
