Night before last, Mikyla stayed all night with me, but Mallory went home. That doesn't happen much, and it was pretty neat. We ate dinner with no fighting and feuding at the table, and Mikyla looked at me and grinned and said, "Wew, mammy, Now we get to relax without running after Joel or Mallory!" (She didn't mention, nor did I, that Mik is the one who torments them into their shrieks of protest and endless tattling) I nodded, agreeing, yes, it's very nice to be able to relax without having to run after the little ones.
She took a 2 hour solitary bubble bath.. no Mal splashing water into her eyes -(no Mik trying to hold Mal under the water) and at first she told me to 'go away' that she'd be just fine, so I did, but in a few minutes she called me in to tell me that I'd better sit on the stool in there just in case because she thought she saw someone looking in the bathroom window. (7 feet off the ground, it was a tall someone, if so.) So... I sat and flipped through a Jenny's catalogue until she finished soaking in the tub. Queen Mikyla, all hail! *laughs*
Later, when it was bedtime, she decided that she just had to have a real ring. Not a toy one but a real one like mine. It had to have a blue stone in it. Like mine. Sapphire. Real. But it had to be the right 'age' for her. Not size, age.
It was truly the sweetest feeling in the world, dark outside, quiet inside, both of us be-jammied, watching my granddaughter go through my jewelry box, her head bent over in concentration. Lord did that take me back. We didn't find a ring her 'age', but we did find my old address book, that she just had to have, as well as a bar of perfumed soap, and a bracelet that she took a shine to.
Then, yesterday morning, when she got up for school, she had to wear the same outfit she'd worn to school the day before to have her pics taken. The skirt is her favorite now and she couldn't rest until she had it on again. Sarah didn't like it one bit but when she came to get Mik, she let her wear it.
Yep... it was the sweetest feeling... :)
