She's back from the neurologist, her results were all normal, he couldn't find a reason for Mallory to be having seizures. No tumor, nothing like that, nothing at all.. thank God. He said that people have them sometimes without an apparant cause, and they call that epilepsy.
He's changed Mallory's medicine from Dilantin to Depakote, and said that that will slow her down some. The shallow eyes, the mottled complexion, he says, is caused by 'sleep deprivation' - that Mallory isn't sleeping the quality of sleep she needs, she's restless - tossing and turning all night, so her body is tired even after just waking...and then when she's awake, she's so hyper, so fast, that she's just not getting enough rest. He said that alone could very easily be causing the seizures.
Sarah said they took her to the Outback for dinner and that she ate like a horse, also that the depakote will cause her to gain weight. If that stuff can get her to sit still for 10 minutes a day the child will gain weight!
The doctor taught Sarah and Roy how to help Mallory during a seizure, what to do, what not to do.. so they're not so afraid now that they know what they're facing and how to react.
I hate this for Mallory, for all of us - it's scary.. but when I glance around, I know that we're not charmed, and it could be so much worse, so I'm just going to be content that we have Mallory safely at home, and that we know how to deal with the seizures when and if they happen again.
Thank you everyone for your phone calls, emails, and prayers! She's going to be fine! :)
