Aw Damn, Now I Have to Go Boil My Head!

Ever have one of those moments...the kind where.. like, years later someone will say while playing a game of cards, or while having radiation on a tumor.. "what was your most uncomfortable moment", and this one doesn't just pop to mind, it literally leaps there? And even after all those years you still feel a little queasy thinking about it, much less telling what it was?

I had one this evening. This moment will be that uncomfortable moment for me, for a very long time.. possibly for the rest of my life.

I don't, I really and truly don't like to be touched. I accept freely and give just as freely, hugs to my grandkids.. kisses to them, I'll hold and cuddle them when they want, that's it. I'll hug mom if she's feeling blue, or dad if I'm feeling sentimental. My aunt Brenda twice a year and my cousin Shelly maybe 3 times a year. My sister? No. We don't touch! My husband? Hell no, we don't touch either. What I listed...that's my limit. I have a touch quota and I strictly adhere to it. Everyone knows that.

It's not that I don't love people, for the most part, I do. It's just that I'm not a huggy-touchy-feely type person. The best anyone else is gonna get is a hearty firm handshake, IF their hands look clean. No elbow squeezing while shaking hands either. *shudders*

This evening...as I prepared for a handshake, I was drawn in for a hug, and while stiffening up manouvering myself away and out, I felt a kiss on the top of my head. I almost fainted. You ever hear of those billy goats that faint if you blow in their faces.. let me tell you, I can certainly empathize with those poor ol' goats.

Turrets hit and I stood there trying to collect myself, eyes moving to see if there were any witnesses, there were, and I just kept thinking, aw shit.. aw shit.. aw shit.. now I have to go home and boil my head! I tried to keep my eyes down so no one could see the expression on my face...I don't like to offend anyone...but there's a limit to what I can physically tolorate. Like.. you know how some folks just get deathly sick when they're stuck on an elevator with someone else who's wearing way too much perfume? Ugh! Don't touch me!

I can imagine the coroner standing over me now. Sighing, popping the rubber gloves off of her hands, shaking her head all knowledgable about this stuff...
"The poor woman, she succumbed due to a human touch right there on the small of her back. She must have suffered horribly... I wish I could say it was fast, but you know how touching deaths are, they linger on for hours, she probably writhed in agony that's why she's got that expression on her face."

Anyway...someone did that to me. In public. I'm going to have to stay inside for a few days, I need to rest. I need to take some time to recover.

Godamighty!

Just Godamighty. Shew. Ugh. Eech!

This and That...

I got some pictures of Mikyla's birthday party posted. I had so many I'm not gonna put them here on the journal, but I did put them on a seperate web page so that they don't take so long to load. If you'd like to see, have a peek:
Mikyla's 6th Birthday Party!

The night before her party, Mom and Mikyla were being sneaky in the den, so I got some pictures.. adorable shots, of them sneaking to open "just one" early birthday present...
Sneakin'!

A few days ago, they came in from Sarah's and made themselves a "little" snack...
Just A Little Something to Tide Them Over...

Every year on Mikyla's birthday, my Rhododendron is in full bloom. It's that way again this year, and as I've done since she was born, I got pictures of her with it. I think they're awfully pretty pictures! :)
The Grandkids and my Rhod

Maegan's growing by leaps and bounds, here are some photos of her these days... :)
Maegan Lately...

Lisa brought a bag of cotton candy to Mikyla's birthday party...boy the kids loved that... and so did Sarah!
Cotton Candy

And last but not least, some pics of my plants.. notice in particular, how well my upside down tomato is doing... HA! Lordy I hope when it gets tomatoes on the vines, it doesn't pull the plant out by the roots, now wouldn't that just suck! *laughs*
My Plants

The next 4 are videos. The first one is of Mallory trying to pull a prank on me. She put a whoopie cushion down the back of her pants, but it wouldn't cooperate with her. I'd forgotten I took this one, and when I saw it, it had me rolling, too funny!
Wait, Mammy! (4.12MB's)

Finally! (576KB's)

The next two are us, the family, singing Happy Birthday to Mikyla...
Happy Birthday, Mikyla! (2MB's)

Happy Birthday, Mikyla 2!(2.10MB's)

Okay, that's all of the current photos I've been sitting here hoarding.. I wanted to get these posted because a dear friend has sent me some photos from Italy, Paris, and Venice - *coughs* I think it's Venice, it's ever where the streets are all flooded and they have to use those boats... *grins sheepishly* Venice? Anyway, I wanted to get these birthday pics up so I could post Beth's pics tonight! They're AWESOME!! Thanks, Pete & Beth!

Thanks everyone, for making Mikyla's birthday special, and for sending the ecards, emails, wishing her well - she loved them, so big hugs to all of you from her! (And me!)

20 Years Since the Meltdown

I remember watching the news, cringing hearing that a nuclear plant exploded in Russia, thinking, Oh no, oh Lord, no, the poor kids there! My next thought was that we could get some of the radiation in our rain all the way here from an explosion like that, couldn't we?

When Chernobyl blew up in 1986, Sarah was 6 years old, Bonnie was 3. I held them tight thinking wow, if we had a disaster like that here, wouldn't the children just be vaporized? And I watched the news. And I clipped the articles from the papers, saved them in an album. I think Sarah still has that album.

The news tho, wasn't too bad. Reports as I remember, said that it was contained, not as dangerous as they'd thought.. people were safe, there was some fall out, some people died in the accident, but it wasn't as bad as had been predicted in a situation like that. People had been evactuated, everything was going to be fine.

I don't know how long it took, but I know it was days and days before they finally said the fire was out.

I just found out a couple of days ago when I went looking for sites of Chernobyl photos, that most of the helicoptor drivers died, they had guys called 'liquidators' who were to forced to go in and evacuate, rescue and clean up..who had either died soon after or later with cancers from the radiation. I read on one site that the first firemen on the scene were fried, they went, not expecting the disaster that was waiting for them, and all of them perished.

There are graveyards with the ambulances, firetrucks, helicoptors, the equipment that had too much radiation saturating them to ever be used again. Villages empty and practically still glowing with radiation. So many dead or with cancer. Good grief.

They built a sarcophogus (sp?) around the reactor, from the photos it looks like a huge tin coffin, it really does... it's deteriorating, melting, the radiation is killing it. I wonder how long it's going to take for them to put a coffin over the coffin?

Good Grief.

Dad's 63'rd Birthday!

No, Mallory doesn't have a black eye. We think she had a seizure in her sleep the night before Dad's birthday. She had every sign, broken veins around that eye, it was so red...and she wasn't her usual perky self, she was going in slow motion and just didn't feel good. She told us earlier she was hurting all over. I kind of had a hunch she was going to have one because she'd been whimpering and thrashing in her sleep again, so I sat up watching her until 4 that morning.. then I woke up again at 7.. she didn't have one while I was awake, but I do think she had one between that time frame, while I was sleeping. :(

Oh happy happy day, we're havin' cake! Cake! CAKE!

I can't decide if in this photo, Mikyla is thinking "Yum. Oh Man, this cake is good.." or if she's just tossing things over in her mind, wondering what she can get into next!

This cake was customized by Mallory. She tried to take it to the table for mom and dropped it. *laughs* Scared the poor kid to death, but she finally accepted that "shit happens" and calmed down. It landed face up on the plate, it was just a little jiggled up. It still tasted just fine!

We all gave Dad money and lottery tickets...both of which, Mikyla was trying to gyp him out of!

*laughs* Mom's like "Wilson" on Tool Time...I never can get a photo of her face unobstructed.

We took Mal's little truck over there and let them play in the yard after dinner. Mallory loves that, but Mik needs something to drive too so they can race..

Mallory gave Dad a birthday kiss. I think that was the sweetest gift of all..

Posted by juel at 04:57 PM

Wow!

I was sitting here trying to think how to start this entry.. wondering what's happened last and there's been a bunch of stuff to write about!

First of all, Dad's birthday was the 20th.. and I've still not posted the birthday pics. My God the folder with his pics is empty. Hope I got them off the camera before I formatted it.

*kicks her own ass and runs to check*

Phew, I have them. I'll post them here in a bit.

Where the heck have I been? Any of you ever read the book "Triad"? I can't recall who wrote it, I read it another lifetime ago. The poor woman in the story had multiple personalities (that never ceases to amaze me, as if we all don't have a little bit of that) and she'd "go to sleep" in her yellow kitchen and wake up in a sparkling clean freshly painted blue one...wondering who the hell did it and how the hell she slept thru it, when she was the one doing all that work all along.

I remember thinking "frickin' cool!" when I read that.. I'd LOVE to wake up to a clean house, without the sore muscles and aching back that let me know .. oh hey, yeah, it was me, I worked my ass off yesterday.

Anyway.. I feel like that. Days gone and I'll be danged if I can remember where they went. Thank God I have pictures to remind me.

I've had the kids all week and that keeps me hopping. They've been sick with pharyngitis the past few days - no, I never heard of that before either, but that's what the doc said they had when we took them yesterday. Oddest thing, they were fine as can be during the day, but at nights their fevers would shoot up to 101 and 102 under their little armpits. Scary stuff to me, I hate when they're not feeling good. Joel tho, has been just fine. But then he doesn't go up into Sarah's hollar either. I think there's something toxic up there - anytime the kids go there with Sarah for a day or two they come back so sick.. maybe it's a coincidence, I don't know, but I've often kidded with Sarah that I bet there's a vein of plutonium in the mountains up there somewhere that's making them sick.

All kidding aside though, I do think something's wrong with the environment up there somehow. There's not really a person who lives up there who's well. There've been so many of them pass away with brain tumors, cancer, anurisms..sick children, sick parents, sick pets... ugh, it's coincidental I'm sure but where is Erin Brochovich when you need her?

Speaking of folks being sick.. Shelly called and said Papaw's been feeling bad.. he's had pneumonia and chest pains.. he went to the hospital for a night but he's back home now.

Bonnie's probably feeling a little sick today too, though she didn't mention feeling bad to me when she picked up Joel while ago.. it seems she had a little party of her own last night. I really wish that she had taken the time to come to Mom's for Dad's birthday party the other day.. but.. alas...she missed it. And she was worried about poor Joel lookin' like Butthead for Easter.. She IS Butthead!

Sarah quit this job she had. I'm not sure why, but she's not gone in all week, said she's not going back. Summer's coming and pools are opening and I just don't think she can stand being confined when it's so nice out there. Hey, it's me, I'm calling in today.. I won't be there, cuz I just feel too damned good to be stuck at work all day...I'm calling in 'well'.

Mallory went to her neurologist on Monday, she's doing fine, he said the scans show a vein that's swollen in her cerebelum (sp?) that may cause her some dizziness from time to time, but it's not the cause of her seizures. He said that it's a birth defect and it happens sometimes.

Mikyla's birthday is on the 28th. I can't believe she's going to be 6 years old. Sarah said this morning she'd like to have Mik's party here, so I think that's what we're going to do. Sarah said it would be easier for her little school friends to find this house than her own. Mik, however, insists that she doesn't want school friends at her party, just one or two, and her family. How 'bout that?

Dede, thank you again for the pens and the easter basket, I'll post a pic here soon! *big fat hugs to you and Thunder!*

Oh! Sufferin' Toys have really caught on around here... Nick had to have a booster shot at school yesterday, so Mikyla and Mallory had to go get him a sufferin' toy.. just insisted on it. *laughs* so I took them to K-mart and I swear as soon as we hit the door, this announcement came over the loudspeaker, " Our blue light special today, in the sufferin' toy aisle...is blah blah blah blah blah! Mom, you've really done something to us now - sufferin' toys - EGADS woman when people find out you're the one who started that, you're gonna get a lot of email! *laughs* Folks, you can voice your opinions on sufferin' toys at: Granny@Sufferintoys.net

Okay, Okay, enough blathering.. I'm gonna post some pics now...

The girls are signed up for Tee and Wee ball, I posted those I know, but yesterday I bought them some sucker paddles and a ball to play with and I turned to look and there's mikyla with her ball helmet on and the paddles plunged to the side of it, that made me laugh...then naturally Mallory had to get in on it...

I really don't think there's anything those girls wouldn't do, or get into!

Bonnie gave Sarah a bike with a child seat on the back of it, so she took Maegan for a bike ride in the yard this morning, and Maegan just LOVED it. Sarah looked like the Pied Piper of Hamlin with all those kids running behind that bike, following her.

didn't know what to think about Easter, but he knew he loved it. Bonnie cracked me up.. she wanted him to wear his new Easter shoes, but it was too hot for the Easter suit she had for him, so she called to ask me if he could wear his dress shoes with his shorts, or would it make him look like Butthead.

Too funny. I thought he looked like a doll!

Has an appointment today with a doc to see if she has ADD, and she has to go back to her neurologist on Thursday so he can see why her face gets fuzzy and scrambled.

Reflections...There I Was...

...with my arm up to my elbow up a turkey's ass, fishing for the neck - which I'm sure is in there - and though I had the damned thing in the refrigerator thawing since Thursday night, the neck was still so solidly frozen to the bird's ribcage that I thought it was a deformity - I didn't think I was ever gonna get that sucker loosened up and out of there. Only the image of Mom laughing her ass off (again) because I'd neglected to remove the innards before baking the turkey kept me diligently trying to get that neck the hell out of that bird.

It came loose with this awful sucking sound, schwoooop, and the bird flew out of the pan, landing in the sink, the neck slipped out of my hand and sailed upwards and almost hooked itself onto the curtain rod above the window, but I finally got the damned thing out.

I've read that we're never supposed to thaw a turkey outside of the refrigerator, it just gives bacteria the opportunity it's been waiting for to breed and make our families sick as dogs. We're supposed to thaw it out for a few days in the lower portion of the refrigerator, so that's what I do.. but it never fails, they never EVER thaw completely when I do that. It drives me nuts, but I'm always afraid if I put it down there for 4 days the thing will end up rotting on me and boy-o wouldn't the hungry family be disappointed on the holiday at dinner time then?

You know if you're not really careful trying to pull that frozen neck out of that bird, you could really hurt yourself. I bet you there've been folks who've cut their arms clean off by grabbing that thing wrong.

Anyway, the turkey's busy baking in the oven and I have 5 dozen eggs on the stove fixin' to boil for dying and deviling. I'm bathed and coiffed and sitting here in amazement that it's only 7 in the morning. Good grief. I have 8 hours to kill now until we have to be at Lisa's for dinner.

Good God my favorite cousin isn't gonna be there today because she has to work, this isn't gonna be too fun because Lisa's favorite is gonna be there and I know they'll sit and gossip and simper and drink their coffee and smoke their cigarettes and Mom and Brenda will join forces, heads together, gossiping and laughing, Sarah and Bonnie will do much the same, and I'll be on the other side of the table smoking and my cousin-in-law will cough into her hand because I will be poisoning her lungs and she'll smile at me like I'm the biggest doofes this side of the Mississippi River, but she can suffer it, suffer me until the day's over and she can escape, and we won't gossip, and we won't tell dirty jokes, and we won't make fun of the men, or of Lisa and Shannon and *sigh* Shelly, why did they decide to make you work on Easter, boy-o that bites. Not that I don't love my cousin-in-law, I do, she's cool, just...she's a non smoker and that right there is enough to take the wind out of any smoker's sails! Maybe I can corrupt her and get her to light up.. start smoking... if you can't beat us, join us. I may give it a shot...

My drier just puked out my sneakers. Yes, I'm wearing them today. We're going to be in the field out back at Lisa's hiding and hunting Easter eggs with the kids and Roy told us yesterday that he killed a 3 foot long rattler up there yesterday.. I'd prefer steel toed boots but they wouldn't go with my ensemble.

Any time I try to dry shoes in the drier, they spin around in there, flopping and thumping and then suddenly the drier door pops open and the shoes fly out. It looks like the folks who make driers would think about putting a lock on the outside of the doors for us for when we wash shoes, doesn't it...

I'm still looking for a wringer washer. I hear it's not impossible to find one, but so far it's been pretty difficult for me. Either there's none around, or folks don't want to give them up. I'll keep trying.

Okay, I've killed almost 30 minutes. The eggs have to be done by now, gonna go dye them. Enjoy the day!

Sights And Wonders

I can remember Mamaw telling me what she knew about the 'end of time' - how to know when it was close at hand. I don't recall ever seeing her pick up a Bible to read, but she would give me the chills telling me what to watch for. And she always made it sound like she was getting her info straight from the Bible. Her dad was a preacher, I can't remember if he was Holiness, or Penticostal, but I guess he's the one who taught her what to look for.

She said there would be sights and wonders to behold.

She said that the weather wouldn't act right, that in summer it would be so cold we'd need heat and in the dead of winter we'd be able to swim in the lakes it would be so warm.. the seasons would be confused. She said the only way we could be sure of the season was to look at the leaves on the trees.

She said that there would be wars and rumours of wars. And that we'd not only be fighting on foreign soil, but we'd be at actual war right here in the United States.

She said that mothers would hate their daughters, and they would turn against each other..and fathers and sons would despise each other and for a child to kill its parent would become commonplace and vice versa.

One of the main things she'd tell me to watch, were the animals. She said they'd behave like we've never been known them to behave before...walking in city streets, we'd be just as apt to see a bear or coyotes and wolves and other wild animals, as we would a cat or dog - these wild animals would be attacking people right in the cities, for food.

The bear and wildcat that attacked those children this week weren't on city streets, but the news articles sure brought back what Mamaw said about the animals would behave like they'd never been known to behave.

Bear Kills 6 Year Old In Tennessee Thursday

Mountain Lion Attacks Boy in Colorado Saturday

These animals were in the woods, but on both stories, comments to the effect "bears, mountain lions are shy/they don't usually act like that" caught my eye and made me think of some things Mamaw used to say.

Do I think it's getting close to the end of time? I dunno about that, but I'm keeping my eye on the tree leaves!

Seth passed away on St Patrick's Day. I would write more, and will, as soon as my mind processes this.

Seth, I loved you very much - you were precious to me, little brother, big bopper. I'm angry right now. With you, with your dying. But I will always love you.

God bless you, angel, untill we meet again, sleep sweet. Goodnight Seth.

Lexi is Gone..

We put her out to go potty a few nights ago, and when we went to let her back in, she wasn't out there. We searched for her but so far, no Lexi. I believe someone's picked her up and took her home with them. :( She's never made a move to go outside of the gate.

I was laying in bed last night reading, and at about 2 a.m., I heard a puppy crying, so I got up and shot out onto the porch, thinking she'd found her way back home, but it wasn't Lexi. Instead it was this big furball, a bear of a puppy with the teeniest face, so odd looking, I thought maybe in the dark I wasn't seeing right.. it looked more like a strange wild kind of animal, thick black hair, I swear it's girth was about 2 feet round, and it was about a foot tall.. but it's little face wasn't 4 inches broad or long. Wierdest pup I've ever seen.

It was standing by my window just crying and I called it up to the porch, it came without being shy.. and I pet its head, but it still just didnt' look like a dog to me. Anyway.. I got it quieted down, I didn't want it to wake the girls, and Maegan is such a light sleeper.. and I left the porch light on for it.. didn't want to bring it inside, it was filthy and smelled awful. It laid down by the porch swing, and the next thing I knew it was squalling again.. so I got back up and went to look and it was literally throwing itself against the neighbor's screen door. I looked out there for it this morning but it's gone.

We had gone there with the intentions of watching Brokeback Mountain (thank God we didn't watch that one with Dad there) but we ended up watching The Chronicles of Narnia. Oh what a wonderful movie, I really enjoyed it, and the kids have enjoyed it every day since.

I watched Brokeback Mountain later, and then left my opinion here, but then deleted it, I'd put one back but I keep changing my mind. Tonight as I think on it, I'm still kinda miffed at both those guys, not for being gay, but for using those women as fronts. That was just crappy. Typical men. Gay or straight, it's appearing like most of you males are just a group of assholes, no matter what your orientation is) Still.. assholes or not, I think you should be allowed to marry if you want. Not hit in the faces with pipes, just.. get married and make each other miserable and leave the women out of it.

I'll probably delete this too. It sounds down on Gay folks, when I'm not, I'm just down on assholes. I'm sorry, I can't seem to find the words to convey what I feel. I think God made all things, assholes too, but for the life of me, I can't think why he'd do that. Just.. please, if you're a gay gentleman, don't marry up with one of my daughters or grand-daughters, I beg you. That's not nice.

Guys, marry the man you love...even if it's against the law. Remember that Braveheart wasn't supposed to marry Marion, and did anyway, under the cover of darkness - and there wasn't a damned thing the English gov't could do about it. Same for you. Get off your butts and change laws. People do it all the time. You may have a rough road, but it'll be your road...not some poor unsuspecting woman's who has children by you, only to find out later it's a farce and becomes crushed. Have a heart.. that's all, just have a heart.

*coughs and muddles on*

Isn't getting old a bitch?
Too Slow

That poor woman took too long to cross the street and got a ticket for it. 82 years old.. said she was pushing her cane as hard as she could and still couldn't make it. *laughs* Love her heart... she's 82, and I sit here wondering if I could make it across that street at 45. I wouldn't even try, so my question is, Woman, what the hell were you doing out there walking in a busy boulevard for?! You're 82 years old, forgive me, I mean no disrespect, but you got no business out there! Do like me! Take the backroads! And shame on you people in LA! You know that you have active 82 year olds, why can't you build them a bridge, with a lift and moving sidewalk.. over the boulevard! They pay their taxes too! Godamighty! THEY CAN'T GET ACROSS THAT STREET FAST ENOUGH!

I can see Bush after reading that story, warming his hands, thinking...thinking...thinking... Hmmm.. I hereby decree a law that every citizen over 75 MUST try crossing that boulevard at least once a week! Social security reform! KABAM! Another one off SS. KABOOM! YEHAW! Got another one! Younger citizens groaning, pulling their hair in frustration as 30 or 40 80 year olds step off the curb trying to miss all those sports cars when the light turns abruptly on them.

I'm sorry. It's late and I'm twisted. Forgive me.

Myspace is in the news again for much the same...not enough privacy there for young people. It's a possible predator paridise. From what I read strangers could find out more about the young folks than they realize, which could be very unsafe. Please, if you use it, be careful!

Mallory. My goodness, I went to run her bath water this evening, Mikyla raced before me to get into the tub. This made Mallory angry, and as I turned to get some wash cloths and towels ready, I heard Mallory threatening Mikyla with the most seriously intense voice I've ever heard. I turned to look and she was standing there, glaring at Mikyla, with her hands on her hips, saying like she meant it for all the world, she would relish the day, "Some day, Mikyla, I'm going to kick your ass." Just watching her there like that, I have no doubt that she will, either.

G'nite world.. be safe.

Don't You Just Love it When...

...You think you're out of cigarettes and then you pick up a book and there is a whole pack, glistening like something from golden cigarette fairyland just laying there waiting for you to light one? *puff puff cough cough wheeze wheeze*

No, I didn't quit. I do think I deserve credit for trying and more recently, for thinking about trying again.

I'm feeling better now, so if anyone has a virus, or lung infection, cough, cold, or even an itchy scalp, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!!

It's raining now, it has been raining for days, a few very nice thunderstorms have passed by, but try as I might, I can't seem to capture any lightening with my camera. How do I do it? Someone out there tell me! I did get a pretty good shot of a raincrow (mourning dove) in the tree earlier today though.

Sarah took the girls home while ago, and Bonnie has Joel, so for a few hours I don't have any kids. I started to get ready to go out to get some graveyard shots, but it's cold, and my old bones pulled me back inside, refusing to go out there. What can you do when your own skeleton turns on you?

I've got just a few photos of the kids to post here, I'll do that in a few minutes, but first, what's new in my world. Bifocals. Those are new..or will be come Monday. My eye doc broke the news gently, like she was scared I'd get angry or fall apart at hearing that my eyes are officially "old". *shoots Shelly a warning glance* I wonder how many people really do fall apart when they're told their eyes are old by their optomotrimists? Anyway, I'll get to see what it's like to have Mrs. Santa style glasses on my own nose come Monday. Godamighty. Don't worry, all you younger folks who are snickering out there - and I know you are, I can FEEL you doing it - you can't say "been there, done that" - BUT YOU WILL, DAMN YOU, YOU WILL!!! *laughs*

Yesterday - Dad, Mom, Lisa and Nick came to visit for a while. Mom brought the girls another suffering present, a neat little wood chest full of beads for more necklace making. They really loved those, and I thought they were neat too.. thanks Mom that was nice of you. (again)

Dad stayed in the den - we have a step up into the kitchen and he has a time trying to get his oxygen tank and tubes up there, so he just sits in the den at the table in there. Mallory ran up to him and hugged him then sat by him chattering while playing with her dollhouse..and you all know by now about Dad and his famous flatulance... well.. he picked that moment to let one of his deadly silent toxic boomers. Mallory looked at him, started to protest when Dad accused her of doing it.. oh Mal has the world's weakest stomach, she started to run and shot him a dirty look and said, "Oh No, Grampaw, that wasn't me! If I had done that, my butt would have felt it!"

Mallory has been doing very well.. I'm so glad this medicine has worked for her. The only thing she does now that concerns me and that's just a little, is that she'll slap her own face, both cheeks and tell me that they're feeling fuzzy, or that they're scrambled. That bothers me but maybe her doctor will be able to figure out why.

Mikyla is Mikyla. That kid keeps me smiling.. she's a good youngin. She likes to imitate everything I do, just like she did when she was 2 years old - she's even talked mom into buying her a pair of reading glasses that she wears so she can look like me. She tickles me to no end. She's reading a little now, and spelling, and when she spots a word she recognizes she runs bringing me the book and points all thrilled then tells me what it says. She's smart as a tack.

Maegan is learning so much at once! She's crawling all over the place now, she turned 8 months old on the 5th...and she's trying her best to stand. She pulls herself up on one foot on the couch, the stool, in her crib.. but then she loses confidence and sits back down really easy.

She had me laughing so hard the other day. Sarah brought in some helium and some mylar balloons for them, and we blew them up, tied them all together and held them down by tying a barbie doll to them. Maegan would reach for them and they'd glide just a little away from her.. she was butt-hopping, as if there were an invisible spring attached to her behind...all over the floor, trying to keep up with those balloons.
She kept her legs out in front of her. Her spine stiff, her arms straight out..and just hopped forward, going to town, fast too, everywhere she wanted to go!
I've seen a lot of babies figure out how to get from here to there in tons of different ways, but this one is the funniest way I've ever laid my eyes on! She's Tigger!! *laughs*
Mal Butt-Hopping! (3.21 MB's)

Dad taught her how to play "Pat-A-Cake" too!

Joel is getting tall. He's a few inches taller than the bottom window pane in my kitchen door now. I noticed last night. He's starting to lose his baby fat and he's talking up a storm now. He's still asking for a 'cow pat' though, and none of us have a clue what he wants when he asks for it. We try to get him to show us, but so far his attention is just drawn to something else along the way so we just haven't found out yet, what he means when he asks for a cow pat. I'm sure tho that he's not wanting a pile of cow dung. Here's a pic I got of him earlier today - his face is Cheeto's coated, but it's adorable all the same!

I went to Lisa's last night, just wanted to go sit on her patio and try to get some pictures of lightening... I didn't get any, but I did get a shot of Nick playing his Saxaphone. That was the first time I'd seen it. I heard he had one and was taking lessons but I hadn't seen it before last night. He's takin' to wearing Tennessee Orange. BOOOOO NICK!!!! Traitor!! *laughs*

Aside from the letter Olivia sent to us last week, we've not heard from her or Acey and Breanna. I guess she's not had time to reply to my reply yet.
I hope the kids are doing well..

That's about all that's new in my world. Hope you all are doing well and are staying safe in the storms!

Restless Children Tonight..

Maegan's stirred off and on for the past few hours, while the thunder has rolled overhead and lightning came into the windows.

Mikyla has talked in her sleep, rolling from side to side, kicking her legs, thrashing her arms, just sleeping terribly.

Mallory is doing much the same, but add gritting her teeth to that.

Joel has whimpered in his sleep for 2 solid hours now.

Lexi (the puppy) has been whining in her sleep for quite a while too.

They're all sleeping, but not well.. at the same time. That's enough, I think, to give anybody the creeps. I just gave Maegan her bottle and she's gone back to sleep now, maybe they'll all quiet down now that this storm has passed. They all had a good day today, played, ate, watched tv, a normal day, I can't figure why they're not sleeping soundly. It must be the weather.

Mallory...

...is so sweet to be so rotten sometimes. We went to Lisa's tonight and when Dad came in a little later from having been to the store he gave her a Reese's Cup. She opened it and the little cardboard had an advertisement for something or other, and Mallory brought it into the kitchen where Mom, Lisa and I were talking...

She said, "Look! I got a ticket!"

We all gasped and oo'd and ahh'd.. thinking she was talking about the golden ticket from Willy Wonka..

I said, "Oh!" "You're going to the Chocolate Factory! Who are you going to choose to go with you? You get to take one person!"

I was just sure she'd pick me, but she fooled me, she picked Lisa.

Mom and I balked, and groaned and acted all hurt, "Oh no! What about us! We want to go too!"

She said, "No, guys, no it's not to the Chocolate Factory, it's a ticket for the Polar Express...I'm taking you all. I'm taking Lisa and Granny and you too, Mammy."

Mom and I shook our heads and said, "You can't take us all, you can just take one.. "

Mom told her, "I'm the one who gets you suffering toys!"

I said, "But I'm the one who takes good care of you!"

Lisa said, "But I'm the one who wants to go the hardest!"

Mallory looked at us with huge eyes, first one, then the other, then the other, and she said, "I can just take one?"

We all nodded, waiting to see who she'd pick and she just shook her head pushing the ticket away from her, "Then I don't wanna go."

Joel

was so good today, not much crying and screaming at all.. I usually get him ready to send home by 2 in the afternoon, but he was so good for me today I didn't send him home at all.

It was a really nice day.. the kids got to play in the yard a while before it started storming, they all seemed to get along for the most part. No screaming and fighting, well okay just a little, Mallory has to be Mallory.. and she really did try to be good today..

It's storming now, the lightening is brightening this room right now, off and on, I love it.

Gonna turn this machine off tho so it doesn't get fried.

To The Gentlemen Who Have No Clue.

Here's one.

Sometimes, it's nice to be surprised by little gifts from you. It's heart warming to know you think of us. It makes us feel special, it let's us know we're appreciated.

While we love these things, you really need to know that sometimes the little gifts you give make us angry. Because sometimes they're so thoughtless that instead of making our hearts go pitter pat, they let us know that you're not being thoughtful at all. You're just giving 'filler'. Anything to make us think you're thinking of us, when you're not putting any thought into the gift at all.

That's not nice.

Yes, I know, don't ever look a gift horse in the mouth.

But when your lady - say.. for example.. never wears jewelry..has commented several times, please don't buy me jewelry, then hinted, 'i really need undergarments'...or..say.. she loves to read and there's a new book out by her favorite author, but you go buy her a sewing machine and she's never before laid eyes on a real sewing machine, has no clue how to sew, and doesn't even want to learn.. those kinds of gifts are bad things.

Those gifts say.. hey, I almost thought of you today. I spent money on you, I did, but I didn't care enough to think about what you'd like to have, so much as I grabbed the first thing I saw. I figured any gift would keep you content enough to get into that kitchen and fix my dinner and not nag me about going out with the guys tonight.

While you may initially be thinking, wow what an inappreciative wretch, you really should put a little more thought in the gift. A 2 dollar flower would really mean much more to us than a hundred dollar blouse 2 sizes too big and the wayyyy wrong color. A little thought guys. It goes a loooong way!

Maegan

She's growing by leaps and bounds.. you know that moment when babies do something so that you know, HEY! There's a real little person in that itty bitty body They do something that they've not done before, and you look at them and realize they did it consciously, they meant to, and then you know they're thinking, reasoning, a real honest to goodness personality, mind, a real person! (not that they're not, just it's more obvious when they start doing things)

Tonight she tried to pull herself up onto the couch. That was neat to watch, but then later.. Stan was holding her in the kitchen and I had been out on the porch with Lisa and Bonnie. I came in and started past them, but then I stopped and leaned over to say hi to Maegan, her eyes were glued to me, twinkling, just sparkling, and she on purpose, fully knowing what she was doing, reached out with her arms for me to take her - leaned that little body towards me - She wanted her mammy!

SHE MEANT IT!

*laughs*

That thrilled me! Her eyes were so bright, she was so pleased with herself.

She's something else!
