Car Wreck

This past Sunday morning, mom and I were talking and I told her I had to go fix breakfast.. then I asked her if she wanted to come eat with us. She said yes, and we invited Lisa and Nick, they said yes too, so I went to cook and while I was getting breakfast ready the phone rang. Talk about a scary call. It was Lisa and I could tell from her voice something was wrong. She was talking so calmly.. but I could hear screaming, I thought it was kids screaming...and she said "Juel, don't worry.. there's been a wreck, but we're okay." I asked her was she involved, but she didn't answer, she just said, "Here's Mom."

She was calling from her cell phone.

When Mom got the phone, for some reason she didn't know I was on it. She didn't talk, she just must have been trying to help the people and all I could hear were the screams. I started shaking, just sure they were in a bad one, because Lisa hadn't answered me, I thought she evaded answering me. I was listening hard trying to hear Nick, but couldn't..

After about 5 minutes, Mom hung the phone up and I couldn't hear anything else. In a few minutes Mom called me back, and told me what had happened.

She, Lisa and Nick turned off of their road and there was the wreck. They were the 2nd people on the scene, some other young couple were trying to help. They told Mom and Lisa that the young guy in the black Bronco had been driving erratically, crossing the center line for a while down the road, he'd almost hit several cars when finally there at the bridge he hit a little truck head on. Thankfully it wasn't full of kids, the screaming I'd heard was an elderly man and his wife. They were in the little truck. The guy in the Bronco was unconscious.

Lisa and Mom tried to calm the woman, she was in pain, said her back was killing her, the airbag was in her face, and she was slumped down almost in the floor begging them to pull her up, but they were afraid to move her because of her back pain. Her husband was too addled to really understand anything, they said he just kept saying he had to get out of there. The truck was so damaged though they couldn't get him out. When the fire dept got there they had to get them out with the jaws of life.

I'd have been a wreck. I asked mom if she had her camera, I don't know why, that's just my first impulse, take a picture. She said she did in fact have it and she hung up to get pictures. She sent them to me and I forgot to post them until now. I wont post them all because she got shots of the injured people, all of it. I just want to show you how badly those vehicles were damaged.

They flew the young guy to Lexington, The woman died later that day in the hospital, but we've not heard how her husband or the young guy are doing.

The young fella was seen driving erratically.. flying.. crossing the yellow line. I don't know if he was drinking, or on drugs, or what was going on with him, but if he was driving under the influence of something, I hope they put him where he can't do anything like that again.
